Life Time Fitness pushes into L.A. Fitness territory
Life Time Fitness pushes into L.A. Fitness territory.
L.A. Fitness Inc. has been pushing in Life Time Fitness Inc.’s Minnesota backyard for the past six years. Now Life Time is making its first entrance into L.A. Fitness territory.
Life Time Fitness Inc. this week is opening its first California health club. The company will hold a ribbon-cutting ceremony at the 128,000-square-foot store in Laguna Niguel on Thursday, then open the club to all members on Saturday.
Irvine, Calif.-based L.A. Fitness operates more than 500 clubs nationwide, including 103 in Southern California. The chain has opened 15 locations in Minnesota since 2008, emerging as one of Life Time’s top fitness competitors here.
Chanhassen-based Life Time now has 110 locations in North America, though the Laguna Niguel location is its first on the West Coast. Previously, its closest gyms were in Arizona, Nevada and Utah.
Both L.A. Fitness and Life Time operate full-service health clubs with indoor pools and basketball and racquetball courts, in addition to the standard cardiovascular and weightlifting equipment. Life Time’s clubs are much bigger, however; its Laguna Niguel location, for example, is nearly triple the size of the typical L.A. Fitness.
