Life Time Fitness has taken over the Racquet Club of the South
The 1960s were great when it was, well 1960, but turn the clock ahead a half century and things built in that era today look more than a bit dated.
Fortunately for Peachtree Corners, Life Time Fitness has taken over the Racquet Club of the South and is transforming this neighborhood club into a 21st century facility with upgrades and improved amenities that’s designed to bring renewed interest back to this once booming tennis club.
Life Time Fitness took over the property that features 28 tennis courts and began renovations earlier this year, the company’s plans include transforming the clubhouse into a sleek, modern look. The outdoor pool is getting a major face lift as well.
“We’re hoping this will become the best tennis facility in the country,” said Layne McCleary, RCS’s general manager.
Plans for renovating the club calls for a complete remodel of the main clubhouse, new landscaping and hardscaping and transforming the pool’s surrounding area with updated paving, a new pool-side cabana that will offer grab and go food but with a fuller menu available for people hanging out at the pool, said McCleary.
“This is the largest renovation we’ve ever done,” said McCleary of the company that launched in 1992. The publicly-traded company operates over 100 fitness clubs nationwide including 16 tennis clubs. “We’re the largest indoor tennis court operator in the U.S.” added McClearly.
But the new RCS will not change in one respect. “Our primary focus will remain tennis,” said the general manager. He said the club will keep the club’s eight indoor and 20 outdoor courts. The courts will get upgrades with hardscaping and shaded seating for tennis players.
Renovations are expected to be complete by “late spring, early summer 2013,” said McCleary.
