L.A. Fitness 45,000-square-foot health club.

L.A. Fitness is coming to Stoughton.

The 45,000-square-foot health club is being built at the Shoppes at Page Pointe, the mall off Route 24 that also holds Target discount store and TGI Friday’s restaurant.

Stoughton is home to several gyms and health clubs, including Planet Fitness and the Old Colony YMCA, but a mall official said L.A. Fitness will have something for everyone, from heavy weights to light yoga.

“Their product compared to other gyms is best in class,” said Sam Judd, vice president of investment of Edens, the developer that owns Page Pointe.

The fitness center is expected to employ about 75 people.

Thomas McGrath, Stoughton building commissioner, said L.A. Fitness will offer a wide range of programs.

“It’s way bigger than other existing facilities in Stoughton,” including a pool, spa, basketball court, racquetball court and spinning studios, said McGrath.

He said its location on Route 139 right off Route 24 will make it convenient for people commuting to and from Boston.

McGrath said L.A. Fitness went through a rigorous Planning Board permit process to get approved. The approved building permit estimates a construction cost of $2.7 million.

L.A. Fitness will have an impact on the town’s economy by bringing in significant tax revenue, McGrath said.

“We hope it stays a healthy business,” he said.

Judd said L.A. Fitness is part of the mall development plan known as “Phase Two.” Target and TGI Friday’s came in first at Page Pointe, but Phase Two was delayed by the 2008 recession.

“We came out and developed a relationship with L.A. Fitness,” he said.

There is no official opening date for L.A. Fitness but it is anticipated to open in March, Judd said.

“It will be a great addition to the Stoughton community and will hopefully be well received,” he said.
