Gold’s Gym moved out and Planet Fitness moves in!
Gold’s Gym moved out and Planet Fitness moves in!Former Gold’s Gym to become Planet Fitness.
Planet Fitness has signed a new lease to renovate and move into the former Gold’s Gym location at the south Logan shopping center.
Dan Smith, general manager of the Sports Academy — which includes the same owners as Planet Fitness’ Logan location — said the fitness chain made the deal with Bountiful-based SKY Properties Inc. recently and is currently demolishing the inside of the former Gold’s Gym, 981 S. Main Street, Suite 130.
“Ultimately, I want to let people know we’re excited to go into that space,” Smith said. “We’ll about double the size … and it will be a brand new, gorgeous Planet Fitness.”
By mid-December or January, Planet Fitness will move out of its current location in the Riverwoods complex, 640 S. 80 East, Suite 120, and into the new location.
“I am so excited for this next step for our Logan club. We want everyone to feel welcome to enter our doors and take a tour of our new location, and the current location too,” said April Bankhead, manager of Planet Fitness in Logan. “It will be an awesome new addition to the south end of our valley.”
According to Smith, the new Planet Fitness will include a 30-minute circuit for a faster work out (members complete timed work outs based on the timing of red and green lights); a bigger weight room with new equipment, additional locker rooms and additional parking.
“We’re excited to have this opportunity to make this transition and keep Planet Fitness growing,” Smith said. “Planet Fitness is a very low cost way for someone who wants to start and might be intimidated by the gym, to go in, get a quick work out and get on with the rest of their day. I think as a whole, Cache Valley is very fit-minded.”
Gold’s Gym closed its doors abruptly at the end of August. For now, former members of Gold’s Gym can join either Planet Fitness at Riverwoods or the Sports Academy,
All former Gold’s Gym members with a pre-tax rate of $24.95 or more were transferred to the Sports Academy, while members with a pre-tax rate less than the same amount were transferred to Planet Fitness.
In its decision to close that location, Gold’s Gym also worked out a “special deal” of $29.99 per month for those members who were transferred to Planet Fitness to transfer to The Sports Academy if they choose. However, Smith said this is a “short term introductory rate” and it would revert to a standard Sports Academy rate if members choose to stick with them.
“I think most people are understanding,” Smith said in an earlier interview about people’s reaction to the closing of Gold’s Gym.
April Bankhead said rates for soon-to-be members of the new location have not been decided yet.
“Planet Fitness is known for delivering high quality, and very user friendly exercise equipment at an affordable price. We will definitely be keeping it that way,” Bankhead said. “We want new members of our Planet to feel as much at home as possible. We are working with each previous Gold’s Gym member one by one to cater to their needs and hopefully making the transition as easy as possible for them.”
