Woman sues Fernwood Women’s Health Club over running accident on treadmill . A WOMAN who claims she ended up in hospital after being thrown from a faulty treadmill is taking legal action against her gym.

Therapist Christine Cox says she was exercising at the Fernwood Women’s Health Club in Mornington when the walking machine “sped up without warning” and sent her flying.

She allegedly fractured a section of her lower spine in the incident.

Ms Cox also claims to have suffered back and nerve damage, bruising, as well as depression and anxiety from the October 2010 incident.

Ms Cox, 61, claims in County Court documents she now needs the care of an attendant after multiple hospital stays, surgery and therapy.

She is accusing the gym of negligence because it did not remove the dodgy treadmill from use or warn her about the faulty equipment.

The writ alleges the gym put its customers in danger by failing to maintain the equipment or detect the fault.

A franchise partner of the gym said it would be inappropriate to comment because the issue was before the courts.
