World Gym location is celebrating 15 years

BELLAIRE – The staff at the World Gym in Bellaire is in the midst of its 15th anniversary celebration that is lasting some 60 days.

Opened on April 20, 1998, World Gym has provided local workout addicts, exercise enthusiasts and all manner of men and women with an eye toward personal wellness, from aspiring body builders to the fitness novices and everyone in between.

For the uninitiated, there is a misconception that a World Gym is only for the pros and fitness elite, with free weights dominated by aspiring body builders.

Stacey Baker from World Gym in Bellaire explained that couldn’t be further from the truth.

“It’s not just for body builders,” Baker said. “This is a fitness center. There are all kinds of people here. People are taking kickboxing classes, spinning classes, strength training, yoga … there is a wide variety of classes for everyone that is interested in working out.”

World Gym has been celebrating the last 30 days and will continue to do so for the next month by offering promotions and giveaways.

Baker noted the gym has already given away 24, one-month memberships and six one-year memberships. Next month will feature different promotions.

Currently, there is a $70 discount on a three-month membership for the summer.

Baker has been with World Gym in Bellaire for 10 of its 15 years. She’s seen a lot of changes through the years, from new equipment and classes being added to an expansion of the facility itself.

One feature you won’t find at other fitness centers is World Gym’s juice and shake bar.

“We make shakes all day long and that sets us apart from other places,” Baker said. “It’s easy. You come in and can get a shake on your way in or out. It’s a lot easier than making one yourself or navigating the health food or fitness store for the right recipe.”

The gym is currently open Monday through Thursday from 5 a.m. until 10 p.m.; Fridays from 5 a.m. until 8 p.m. and Saturdays and Sundays from 8 a.m. until 3 p.m. Baker noted, however, that beginning May 18, new summer hours will be in place for the weekend, 7 a.m. until 7 p.m., providing longer hours for patrons to get in their workouts.
