Emergency crews made a late-night call to a Wichita health club Monday, after a women was found unconscious in a pool.

Paramedics say the unidentified woman is lucky to be alive, after being rescued around 9:30 p.m.  She was inside Fitness 2000, in the Parklane Shopping Center in the 1400 block of South Oliver. . “She was still breathing very shallowly on her own,” Sedgwick County EMS Division Leader Kevin Hartley told KAKE News.

Staff at the gym say the women had been doing laps in the pool.  She was found later with her face underwater by a gym member leaving the sauna area.  Once that member realized what was happening, she ran for help.

“The fire department and EMS arrived on scene,” Hartley said, “and she was transported in critical condition to Wesley Hospital.”
