Two Gold’s Gyms Acquired by Planet Fitness, Former NFL Player’s Wellness Center, $60 Million Rec Center

Two Gold’s Gym locations in Spartanburg, South Carolina, have been sold to Planet Fitness, according to a WSPA-7 report. The Gold’s Gym employees were notified of the change on June 24. Separately, Planet Fitness is expected to open a mall location in Racine, Wisconsin, by early August, and two locations are coming to the Tacoma, Washington, area by the end of the year.

Former NFL player Kevin Johnson opened his 120,000-square-foot Team85 Fitness and Wellness center in Bordentown, New Jersey, in January. Team85 is part of a $50 million Team Campus Bordentown complex that Johnson owns and leases to businesses in athletic training, health care, fitness and physical therapy, according to The Courier-Post.

Commerce City, Colorado, is expected to begin construction of a $60 million recreation center at the end of this summer, according to the Denver Post. In addition, plans are being finalized for a second recreation center set to open by the end of 2018 in Commerce City, which is growing Denver suburb

LA Fitness has gained approval from the Seal Beach, California, Planning Commission to build a 37,000-square-foot club in the Shops at Rossmoor Center, according to a Sun Newspapers report. Seal Beach is located between Long Beach and Huntington Beach in the Los Angeles metro area.

The Anytime Fitness in Portage, Wisconsin, held a grand reopening after a $200,000 renovation project. The project’s details are profiled by the Portage Daily Register.

9Round held a grand opening in El Paso, Texas, this week. The club was opened by a former assistant principal, Martha Arana, who dreamed of opening her own fitness center for years, according to the El Paso Times.

Orangetheory Fitness plans to open a location in Dyer, Indiana, on July 1, according to NWI.com.

MUV Brands announced a signed lease to open a MUV Training boutique concept in the Hazel Dale area of Vancouver, Washington.  The 4,000-square-foot boutique gym will be the second standalone MUV Training location and will join three in-club MUV Training locations in South Carolina.  The new location will feature functional strength-style training with wearable heart rate technology, TRX, cardio, barre, yoga and Pilates. MUV Brands CEO Joel Tallman recently announced the opening of the 10th MUV Fitness full-service concept in West Columbia, South Carolina. New MUV Training and MUV Fitness locations are expected to be announced in the coming weeks, Tallman said.
