The national chain of fitness centers has leased 15,000 square feet of space

Planet Fitness will open its newest Western New York location in the Big Lots Plaza on Transit Road in Lockport.

The national chain of fitness centers has leased 15,000 square feet of space at the 137,000-square-foot plaza at 5897 South Transit Road, said David Schiller of Pyramid Brokerage Co. of Buffalo, who handled the lease and markets the property for the New York City-based owner.

Besides discount retailers Big Lots and Dollar General, other tenants in the plaza include Fantastic Sam’s, EG Tax Services, Smarty Pants, Fastenal, Ladies Nails, Sherl’s Laundry and Frontier Dental.

The arrival of Planet Fitness comes as the town is also expecting construction on the Super Walmart to begin, as well as a $4 million project at Basil Volkswagen. Planet Fitness also has facilities in West Seneca and Amherst.

“Planet Fitness will be a great addition to the Big Lots Plaza,” said Lockport Town Supervisor Marc R. Smith.
