Teazers Pole Fitness Club….It’s not your mother’s workout routine.MYRTLE BEACH, S.C. (WBTW) –
It’s not your mother’s workout routine, but many who have tried pole fitness swear by it.
“We come in here and become free more than anything,” Tor’kees Moss said.
Moss opened Teazers Pole Fitness in January after learning there were no other pole fitness studios in Myrtle Beach.
The idea of pole dancing tends to raise a few eyebrows, but she wants to make it clear that her students do not take their clothes off.
She says her classes are strictly for the purpose of staying fit and having fun.
Still, some are a bit skeptical.
“[I have] to tell people what I do, you know, I have to say ‘pole fitness’ and they’re like ‘what’s the pole?’ and I’m like ‘let’s think about it for a second,'” she joked.
One of her students, former gymnast Michelle Hinkel, started taking classes after the studio opened to get back in shape.
Now she’s one of the instructors.
“Basically to me this is just like gymnastics, instead of being parallel bars, it’s on a vertical bar,” Hinkel said.
Pole dancing offers a full body workout that requires you to carry all of your weight in your arms or legs, depending on the position.
It even gets your heart rate up to give you a cardio workout too.
Moss says she’s lost more than twenty pounds since she started.
“We consider it losing weight, and at the same time you’re finding yourself, that person that was in there that you think you didn’t have and it’s coming out of you, and it’s starting to show and starting to glow,” she said.
Now she loves helping others find their glow, like Crystal Menth who just took her first class two weeks ago.
“You’re learning to feel confident in yourself by going upside down on a pole, and all that’s holding you up is your own body, and that’s a really big deal for somebody that has never done anything like this before,” Menth said.
The girls admit they all had a few bumps and bruises after their first class, but it becomes less painful over time.
Moss says several men have come to the studio for classes as well.
It may be unconventional, but they say it’s working.
“Nobody knows what it is until they actually come into the studio and take a class,” Moss said.
Teazers also offers several other classes, like Hip Hop and Hula Hoop. It’s located inside the X Sports Complex on George Bishop Parkway.
