Snap Fitness, a no-contract, low-cost fitness chain with 10 gyms in the D.C./Baltimore area, is seeking space and franchisees for as many as 10 more locations during the next five years.

The fitness chain already has a significant presence in Alexandria, with two existing locations and another one opening soon. It also has clubs in other Virginia suburbs such as Gainesville, Herndon and Dale City.

Snap Fitness expects to boost its presence in the region in the next six months, said Patrick Strait, a spokesman for the Chanhassen, Minn.-based company.

“There has been a lot of interest expressed” in the Washington market, Strait said. “Now, it comes down to finding the right candidate to begin development. Efforts are highly concentrated on getting the ball rolling in that regard.”

Snap Fitness touts a business model that eliminates expensive amenities such as pools and racquetball courts. Locations are smaller than a typical gym at an average of 2,500 to 3,000 square feet. They are open 24 hours, seven days a week. Memberships start at around $30 per month.
