Retro Fitness holds ribbon cutting

Yorkville, N.Y. – Retro Fitness in Yorkville has been open to the Public since last June, but on Saturday, 10 months after opening, the owners held an official ‘Grand Opening’.

Kayla Bick who purchased a Retro franchise and opened the business on Commercial Dr. with her sister and their father, says it’s the best decision they could have made, “We have over 2,000 members right now. We’re having a party for everybody who supported us, who has believed in us.”

Bick says although there has been business after business that has come into their location (in the plaza which also is home to Joe Tahan’s Furniture) in the past that haven’t done so well, Retro is bucking the trend, “We have the personal training on-site, we have child sitting, we have group classes which are included, we have a cardio movie theatre, we have smoothies, so we have a lot of different things that people can come and get in one spot.”

Bick says although the fitness industry continues to grow, in order to survive you need your own niche and the perfect price for people to feel comfortable paying for what you have to offer.

The cost at Retro is $19.99 per month for a basic membership, or $29.99 per month which includes child sitting and tanning.

Retro is a national chain which now has about 30 locations nationwide.

Retro Fitness also offers competitions in its fitness centers that include a 150 pound tire flip competition and a rope pulling competition, things you don’t normally see in other gyms.

According to the U.S. Department of Labor Bureau of Labor Statistics, employment of recreation workers is projected to grow 10 percent from 2014 to 2024, faster than the average for all occupations.

So, if you are looking for a business to open, the fitness business may be the way to go, of course if you can find your niche, that is.
