Pure Gym is accelerating its £20m conversion of the LA Fitness outlets it acquired six months ago and has agreed to sell seven sites to DW Sports Fitness.
The Leeds-headquartered business plans to convert the sites more quickly in response to rising demand.
Pure Gym acquired 43 LA Fitness sites in May 2015 and has started converting most of them to the Pure Gym model, divesting sites where it is already present in some parts of the UK.
Former LA Fitness outlets in Brighton, Bedford and Woking have been refurbished and reopened and work has begun to convert a further 17 gyms.
Pure Gym is investing £20m in gym upgrades including new showers, toilets, lockers and new equipment. The programme is expected to be completed by the summer of 2016.
In parallel, Pure Gym has this week agreed the sale of seven LA Fitness sites to DW Fitness. These include gyms in Brentwood, Brooklands, Ewell, Shawsbridge, Thorpe Bay, Waldorf Hilton Hotel and Yeadon.
Pure Gym chief executive Humphrey Cobbold said: “Our business is performing strongly as we convert the LA Fitness portfolio to the popular Pure Gym format. We’re seeing a significant increase in membership of all ages, reinforcing the logic of our LA Fitness acquisition and extending access to flexible and high-quality gyms for users around the country.”
Pure Gym, which has 115 sites in operation, also continues to expand organically and will have opened 30 new sites by the end of the year.
