Police Arrest Man Sought in Retro Fitness Attack

Stafford police recently arrested a Manahawkin man who fled the scene after a July 23 attack on a patron at the Retro Fitness center.

William R. Devane, 48, Autumn Oak Lane, was charged with aggravated assault in connection with the incident. He was arrested at 12:12 p.m. on July 24 on a warrant issued out of Stafford Township Municipal Court, police said.

Police have said Devane attacked a 39-year-old Waretown man from behind. The man suffered facial and head lacerations and was taken to Southern Ocean County Medical Center for treatment.

Devane made the $25,000 bail with no ten percent option and was released. A court date will be set in Ocean County Superior Court, police said.
