Olympia Athletic Club celebrates 35th year

Olympia Athletic Club has been family owned and operated  since 1978. It boasts beautiful mountain range views from the windows of one of its many weight  rooms that are located in this 30,000- square-foot powerhouse.

Olympia, which is Maryville’s  second-largest health club, celebrated its 35th anniversary on July 4.

Vice President Eric  Herzbrun, along with his mother, Wilma Herzbrun, and his sister, Yvette Herzbrun, run the facility.  Each of these owners can be found on site at any point during business hours. “Our motto is add  years to your life and add life to your years. We stand by that statement all the way,” said Eric  Herzbrun.

With so many choices in today’s fitness world, why choose Olympia? “Our prices are  lower than most,” Herzbrun said. “We are the only facility that offers racquetball or tennis. Curves  went out of business and we have a complete system that is based on that program. I have also been  told that we have the most extensive collection of free weights in the community.

“People  should know that when they come here, we aren’t trying to sell you anything. Our staff exists in  order to help and make your experience as enjoyable and as effective as possible. Our personal  trainers are on site every Tuesday and Thursday at no charge. They are here to assist and make sure  that our members our making good moves to improve their lives.”

Monthly fees never change and  they could be as low as $38 for an individual. And children under 10 can attend for free.

“We  even have an entire set of weight machines that are designed for children,” said Herzbrun. “There is  no annual fee for maintenance or membership cards, either.”

So what keeps this business a  success? The amenities do help a little. Hot tubs, saunas, a full physical therapy center, massages  and swimming lessons for all ages are just a few services that are included in  membership.

Another important aspect that has helped Olympia succeed is the staff. “Pam  McLemore, our accounts receivable and front desk manager, has been with us since 1994. Her  meticulous care and customer service is unequaled. Joe Morgan, our maintenance manager, has been  here since 1998. He arrives here at 5 a.m. every weekday morning in order to keep things running  smoothly,” said Herzbrun.

About 4,700 members are in and out of these doors currently and the  summer time brings new members every year.

“The relaxed atmosphere, no-pressure, friendly  staff and no hard sales is what I want people to talk about when they speak about Olympia,” said  Herzbrun.
