New Gold’s Gym set to open soon in this town…cost more than $1million

New Gold’s Gym set to open soon in ???CHEYENNE – The newest place to get fit in Cheyenne soon will open its doors.

Gold’s Gym at Cheyenne Regional is a 30,000-square-foot facility at 1616 E. Pershing Blvd. that once housed a supermarket.

Bryce and Janell Berry of Utah own the business franchise. In July, Bryce Berry began an extensive renovation of the space, which has sat empty for many years since the closure of EconoFoods.

It cost more than $1 million to transform it into Gold’s Gym.

The facility is a joint venture between Gold’s Gym and Cheyenne Regional Medical Center and is located next to CRMC Health and Fitness, which will close when the new facility opens. The cardiac rehabilitation class currently offered will continue in the new facility.

CRMC’s Jason Shenefield said the hospital owns 19 percent of the new facility, and Gold’s Gym owns the rest.

Most employees of the current fitness center stayed and will work at the new one.

On Thursday, Bryce Berry said the facility will open soon. When it opens depends in large part on getting final inspections from the city, he said.

This is the fourth Gold’s Gym for the Berrys. They own three Gold’s Gym franchises in Colorado.

“We hope to create an environment to really help people who want to change their lives,” Berry said.

“We want to make sure you’re successful,” said Sharon Smith, the facility’s general manager. It’s important for people to find an exercise they like, she added.

“We want to make your day,” Smith said. “We want you to fall in love with the gym.”

Members with questions about the facility can get help from employees at the front desk or from any employee, she said.

Just inside the building is a huge floor-to-ceiling stone fireplace, soon to be surrounded with comfortable furniture for use as a gathering place.

Not far from the fireplace are rows and rows of cardio equipment. The facility has 150 pieces of all-new equipment, which includes treadmills, elliptical machines, stair mills and stationary bicycles.

Berry estimated the equipment’s value at more than $1 million.

Large mirrors cover the facility’s walls. Flat-screen televisions hang above the cardio area.

Free weights are neatly stored against one mirrored wall. Nearby are large pieces of equipment that provide resistance training.

The gym has a separate spinning room filled with 40 new spinning cycles, Smith said. A colorful mural of the Vedauwoo recreation area hangs on a wall.

The gym will offer popular group exercises like Bodypump and Senior Fitness.

In the functional movement area, people will exercise with equipment like kettlebells and medicine balls.

At its Cardio Theater, members will watch newly released feature films and exercise at the same time. Movies will be shown on a large screen in a darkenedroom while members use treadmills and other equipment.

Kid’s Club at the gym is a place where parents can bring their children while they work out.

Men’s and women’s locker rooms have showers, and each locker room has a dry sauna.

Personal trainers will help people reach fitness goals. Training classes also will be offered where people can gather in small groups and meet with a personal trainer for a more affordable experience.

Personal training experts can provide free fitness tests or develop personal training programs.

Regarding the hospital’s role, Shenefield said CRMC could not buy the new equipment like Gold’s Gym has done.

The hospital lost from $300,000 to $350,000 a year in the last couple of years on its fitness center, he said.
