Millennials Say That The Traditional Health Club Will No Longer Exist in 2020

A recent survey of Millennials revealed that 44 percent of 5,000 respondents believe the traditional health club will no longer exist in 2020. The survey was commissioned by fitness manufacturer Technogym, Cesena, Italy, in an effort to better understand Millennials and provide its clients with actionable insights for the future.

The possibility of the traditional gym’s swift demise may be a scary proposition for many health club operators. If the traditional health club is destined to disappear, it begs the question: What do Millennials envision as the health club of the future?

The Millennial generation is estimated to include approximately 80 million to 100 million people worldwide between the ages of 14 and 34. They make up the largest generation in history and comprise 48 percent of all adult exercisers who do gym-type activities, according to The Nielsen: Les Mills Global Consumer Fitness Survey (2013).
