Long-time health club closes its doors
Long-time health club closes its doors. A Rockland County fitness center says it’s closing due to financial difficulties after four decades in business.
The Diplomat Health and Swim Club on Route 9W in Piermont posted a sign on the door that said its financial struggles, combined with a family illness, became too much.
Their website says the club is exploring ways it might be able to reopen. Earlier, it said it expected to reopen by July 7. But that never happened.
“I was very upset,” says Simon Mason, a Piermont resident. “The owner is a very nice man. I was just very sad for him. He’s trying to sell the gym now. He’s talking to a few buyers, but nothing is definite yet.”
County officials say health clubs are required to file a bond that reimburses pre-paid club members.
