Lifestyle Fitness Leaving Indianapolis
The second health club chain in two weeks announced it was closing and turning its members over to a competitor.
Lifestyle Family Fitness announced today it will transfer its gyms at Fishers and 9525 North Meridian Street to Life Time Fitness and shut its gyms at 4225 East 82nd Street and 7609 S. Shelby Street near Greenwood.
The change is expected to be finalized in December, Life Time said.
St. Petersburg, Fla.-based Lifestyle is also closing operations in Columbus, Ohio and North Carolina to concentrate on business in Florida, Chuck Downs, vice president of marketing said. Life Time Fitness, of Chanhassen, Minn., will take over some of the Lifestyle gyms in Columbus and is negotiating over the North Carolina locations.
Clients at the Fishers and Meridian Street centers will see no change in their memberships when Life Time takes over, said Life Time spokesman Jason Thunstrom. Clients at 82nd Street will have their memberships transferred to Life Time Indy, 8705 Castle Creek Parkway. Because of the distance between Greenwood and Life Time locations, memberships will not be automatically transferred, however Greenwood clients will be offered a special rate if they join, Thunstrom said.
Earlier this month, Cardinal Fitness abruptly closed six of its Indianapolis locations and sent its clients to L.A. Fitness.
