HEALTH CLUB NEWS: Mask, Vaccine Mandates Being Lifted in Some States

Health club operators who have had to enforce mask or vaccine mandates for entry into their businesses are getting relief in some states as state governments begin lifting mandates.

Mandates that required health club members to wear masks inside health clubs and other indoor businesses are being lifted in several states, according to announcements from various governors’ offices this week.

The lifting of the mandates are occurring as COVID-19 cases begin to decline.

As of mid-January, 10 states plus the District of Columbia, Guam, Puerto Rico and the U.S. Virgin Islands required masks to be worn inside businesses regardless of vaccination status, and Connecticut required masks for unvaccinated people, according to U.S. News.

However, that number is declining now that governors of six of those states are lifting mask mandates. Here are the dates mandates will be lifted in these states:

California: No masks required for vaccinated people starting Feb. 15, but unvaccinated people still must wear masks while inside a business.

Delaware: Indoor mask mandates will end on Feb. 11.

Illinois: Indoor mask mandate on businesses will end on Feb. 28.

New York: Indoor mask-or-vaccine mandate lifts on Feb. 10, which is when it was set to expire. Local governments still may require the mandate. For example, New York City still requires proof of vaccination to enter a gym, restaurant or other indoor business. The order is reviewed every five days to determine if it should be renewed. It was most recently renewed on Feb. 8.

Oregon: Indoor mask mandate on businesses ends no later than March 31.

Rhode Island: Indoor mask-or-vaccine mandate to end on Feb. 11 for businesses.
