Gym opens inside supermarket creating 50 new jobs WHAT is thought to be the first gym inside a supermarket has opened its doors – creating 50 new jobs.

The facility called Xercise4Less in the refurbished Tesco on Durham Road, Stockton opened last week and has a ladies only zone and various free classes for members.

As well as the 32,000 sq ft gym, operated  by a private company, on a mezzanine floor there is also a crèche facility and new café.

Jon Wright of Xercise4Less said: “We’re really excited about partnering with Tesco on this gym as it really brings our philosophy to life of providing fitness facilities for all.

We are making it easier than ever for people to slot fitness into their lives and hope that people will take advantage of being able to co-ordinate going to a class, with doing their weekly shop.”

Mark Thomas, Tesco Corporate Affairs Manager, said: “Having a gym within the Tesco store means our customers can access the facility at a time that suits them.”
