Gold’s Gym on Reynolda Road to close Friday

Tension Builds Between Gold’s Gym International and Gold’s Franchisees

Gold’s Gym on Reynolda Road to close Friday .

The franchise operator of the Gold’s Gym off Reynolda Road is closing the facility Friday, according to a Facebook post Tuesday that was confirmed by employees.

The gym at 3300 Reynolda Road is owned by John Bates, who could not be reached for comment.

Bates’ Facebook posting did not give an explanation for the closing. He said that group exercise classes and kids’ club services would end Tuesday.

Bates said the corporately owned Gold’s Gyms at 400 W. Fourth St. and 420-R Jonestown Road will accept current Reynolda Road memberships through transfer. Members will have to present their membership card and sign a new waiver-of-liability form.

The downtown facility is about six miles from the Reynolda gym; the Jonestown facility is about 10 miles.

The corporate Gold’s Gym facilities were purchased from The Rush Fitness Complex in August 2014, along with three in Greensboro and one each in Burlington, High Point and Jamestown.

Bates said his franchise will waive the normal 30-day cancellation notice for members wanting to end their contract. The corporately owned gyms take over membership billing and dues Tuesday.
