Darryl Bayne, 49, of Noble Avenue in Bridgeport was arrested on a warrant July 19 and charged with third-degree larceny and third-degree forgery and released on $2,500 bond for a July 26 court date.
Police said the owner of Anytime Fitness lodged the complaint in May after the trainer told him she had not been paid for two weeks.
An investigation determined that Bayne cashed nine checks totaling $5,390, police said. But police did not disclose how much of it Bayne allegedly took for himself.
