Despite Recent Civil Unrest “Planet Fitness” Heads to Baltimore.

Planet Fitness plans to open its first downtown Baltimore location this summer at 100 S. Charles St., looking to capitalize on the growing number of people working and living in the area.

The low-cost gym chain has signed a lease for 14,500 square feet of ground-floor space at the intersection of Charles and Lombard streets.

The gym will open as thousands of apartments are coming online downtown with thousands more in the pipeline.

“We feel like being in the area down there is just going to serve so many people,” said Steve Smith, chief operating officer for the Planet Fitness franchisee overseeing the location.

The gym will become the closest health club to the Inner Harbor. A Brick Bodies is located in Charles Center, several blocks north of the Planet Fitness.

A pre-sale ahead of the gym’s expected opening in late summer will offer $10 monthly memberships. A $19.99 membership includes unlimited access to any Planet Fitness location, among other benefits.

The Segall Group represented the building in the deal. MacKenzie Commercial Real Estate Services LLC worked on behalf of Planet Fitness.

Planet Fitness operates one other Baltimore City location on Belair Road in the Frankford neighborhood.
