Defunct software maker QuanComm defaulted on $1.1M loan

A Columbus technology company that made payment processing software for the health and fitness industry has stopped operating after defaulting on a $1.1 million economic development loan from the state.

The Ohio Development Services Agency obtained a court order Oct. 26 to collect principal plus interest on the loan from QuanComm Inc. The company ceased operations as of April 5, according to documents on the agency’s loan collection efforts obtained by Columbus Business First through a public records request.

Founded in 2003, QuanComm made software for business management and payment processing, particularly for the health and fitness industry. It was approved in November 2009 for money from the Innovation Ohio Loan Fund, with the loan’s six-year term at 6 percent interest. It pledged to keep six jobs and add 24 workers.

The company had just launched a cloud-based version of its product in September.

According to collection documents, former CEO Kent Stuckey had informed the development agency in March that the company had lost key industry experts on its staff and “that the present economic climate has made it very difficult to achieve new sales,” so the company could not continue marketing its software and was seeking a buyer.

The documents indicate the company was started by former CheckFree Corp. employees. Records with the Ohio Secretary of State’s office show Stuckey registered a new business, 2Venture LLC, in March.

Attorney Kurt Niermeyer, who represented the company at the hearing on the default judgment, declined to comment. Messages seeking comment were sent to Stuckey.
