Club Closed Suddenly. Members Stunned !…..“I think it stinks,” said one member.
Forest Grove gym closes, to members’ surpriseForest Grove Fitness closed its doors early Tuesday morning after seven years of business. Members were stunned.
“I think it stinks,” said member Fran Bates. “I came to work out this morning and the sign was on the door.”
A sign on the front door blamed the economy and health challenges for the closing.
It’s devastating to members like Karlen Suga. “It makes me really sad. I come here pretty much every weekday right after work and this is such a great gym and to see it gone is really just shocking,” she said.
It’s also painful financially for some members. The gym promoted buying memberships one or two years in advance.
Carol Schmit was one of the most recent members to do just that.
“Yeah, I paid for a year,” she said. She joined the gym two weeks ago. No one suggested she hold off on the year-long membership, she said.
Corporation and Forest Grove city records show the gym is owned by Jim and Mary Anne Long, who appear to live in Hillsboro. Calls to their phone and a knock on their door were not answered.
Back at the gym, members continued to show up during the day to learn the startling news.
“So that’s too bad. Darn,” said Shannon Desully.
Fran Bates and others worry the money they paid in advance is gone. But that may not be the case.
