Death is suspicious… The body was discovered Wednesday at the old Hoops and Fitness location on Tara Boulevard.
Police in Jonesboro believe that a man was trying to steal copper when he fell to his death at an abandoned gym.
The body was discovered Wednesday at the Hoops and Fitness location on Tara Boulevard. The gym has been closed for more than two years, police said.
Police believe the man broke the lock and chain on the front door Sunday and was attempting to steal copper when he slipped and fell about 50 feet from the ceiling.
Jonesboro Police Chief Franklin Allen said an officer noticed a suspicious man milling around the gym on Wednesday morning. That man was arrested on an unrelated warrant, but he gave police information that led the discovery of the body.
Allen said that his department has had a problem with vandalism, break-ins and the homeless squatting in the abandoned gym.
Police have located the man’s mother and brother in Morrow, but they have not released his name.
Authorities believe the death was an accident.
