MIDDLETOWN, N.Y. — A 17 year member of Gold’s Gym in Middletown said she deserved to be treated better.
“Someone could have said if you have a locker, you might want to get your stuff out,” said Ms. Jater.
The owners abruptly closed its doors on October 1 without warning customers. As a result, Jater and other members did not have the chance to gather their belongings now locked inside.Gold’s Gym members upset over sudden closure
“My sneakers, my shower shoes, toiletries, weights, ace bandages,” said Jater.
According to the gym’s Facebook page, the owner said they were in the process of finding an investor after filing for bankruptcy in 2012. They said when the investor fell through, they were forced to close the gym for good.
“There was probably a classier way to go about things,” said Town of Wallkill Supervisor Dan Depew.
He said there are about 120 lockers with member’s belongings still inside. Depew said it would have taken up to three months for people to finally retrieve their belongings. However, that day is coming sooner.
“We’ve been able to negotiate with them to allow on Friday, this coming Friday, between 10 a.m. and 2 p.m., it’s a short four hour window, they will be able to come here,” said Depew.Gold’s Gym members upset over sudden closure
