High Heels and Exercise

A local Marysville gym, PA Fitness, is expanding to Smokey Point this June into the location of the former Gold’s Gym. The space is located in the retail area that fronts I-5 at Exit 206, at 3131 Smokey Point Drive.

PA Fitness, also known as Power Alley Fitness, started in Marysville as a batting cage, hence the name “Power Alley.” Eventually the batting cages transformed into a full-fledged fitness center, located at 13315-38th Ave. NE #C, and the business has done well since then, said Lenny Moskowitz, co-owner of Power Alley Fitness.

The Arlington and Marysville Gold’s Gyms were closed in February because of the operator’s financial troubles.

Moskowitz hopes to run the “friendliest, cleanest health club in the area,” he says.

He also wants to make sure the equipment stays well maintained, an aspect which is sometimes neglected in other gyms, he claimed. He pointed out that that is a pretty achievable goal for PA Fitness because one of the owners, Mike Jellison, also runs Advanced Pro Fitness Repair, which maintains fitness equipment all across the state.

The two locations will have a slightly different feel to them, said Moskowitz. The original Marysville location has programming similar to CrossFit, which he describes as real-life, practical movements, e.g. lifting a tire. CrossFit’s workout is about “functional movement and training,” he said.

The Smokey Point location will offer a slightly broader appeal with a wider range of weight equipment and cardio training opportunities.

The gym is scheduled to open June 1. It will offer group fitness classes including Zumba, group cycling and yoga. Other services include personal training childcare, tanning, a nutrition bar and more.

The one-year agreement rates are $29 a month for a single membership and $49 a month for a couples membership. Members gain access to both gyms.

PA Fitness plans to give one-week free memberships to allow people to try out the gym.
