Planet Fitness announces new location

Planet Fitness recently confirmed the company plans to open a new location in Claremore. Renovations are underway at the former Drug Warehouse building at 215 North Lynn Riggs Blvd.

A Planet Fitness representative said in a statement released by the Claremore Industrial and Economic Development Authority (CIEDA), “We are excited to bring affordable fitness and our judgment free zone atmosphere to the Claremore community. We can’t wait to get open later this year.”

The new Planet Fitness facility is scheduled to open in December 2016. An estimated $2 million investment in renovations and inventory is planned, according to the CIEDA release.

The building was left vacant following Walgreens’ acquisition of USA Drug, which resulted in closing more than 70 affiliated stores, including the Drug Warehouse location in Claremore.

“We are pleased to have this nationally recognized brand choose to locate in Claremore,” said Jeri Koehler, Executive Director of CIEDA. “The interest our city has received from national and regional brands continues to grow as new commercial developments plan to come online later this year.”

Koehler’s team published an extensive list of available commercial properties in their 2015-16 “Grounds for Development” guide, which included the former Drug Warehouse building.

“The guide has been a great marketing and recruitment tool. It has stirred excitement for the site selectors and developers who represent the various brands we are working to recruit,” said Koehler.

Planet Fitness already operates five locations in the Tulsa area. Planet Fitness was founded 23 years ago in New Hampshire. The company has more than 1,110 locations and has grown to be the biggest health club chain in the country.
