An armed man robbed Planet Fitness in the 2600 block of Peters Creek Parkway Friday morning, authorities said.

The incident happened about 2 a.m. when a man with a gun and his face covered went into the business, stole an undisclosed amount of money from the cash register and assaulted an employee, Winston-Salem police said. The suspect then ran from the scene.

The employee had minor injuries and was treated by paramedics, police said.

Detectives are investigating the incident.
