Planet Fitness moves into very crowded market.

The 20,000 square foot health club will open at 214 Bobby Jones Expressway, which is between Lowe’s and the Urban Outfitters call center.Skylar Pyles, the club’s manager, said the location will open in mid-July and have a dozen employees. The staff is using the nearby former Stevie B’s pizza store as a temporary sales office.There is another Planet Fitness at 2115 Windsor Spring Road in Augusta, but it is operated by a different franchise owner. They plan to market heavily and pull new members from surrounding neighborhoods, businesses, as well as other gyms and health club facilities in the 5 to 10 mile radius sources say.

The Dover, N.H.-based Planet Fitness has more than 1,000 locations nationwide.
