$9 million project for National Fitness Center
It’s hard to see in the photo, but demolition has begun on a former fitness center in West Knoxville.The Court South building at 8511 Walbrook Drive, near Walker Springs Road, is being removed to make way for a much larger facility under the National Fitness Center brand.Stuart Anderson, of George Armour Ewart Architect, said the new facility will be a $9 million project and will include 120,000 square feet of space on two levels. According to a news release, amenities will include a movie theater, rock climbing room and multiple pools.Anderson, the project architect, said the demolition will be followed by site work and grading, and that construction itself will take about a year.The club is currently operating out of a temporary facility in the Cedar Springs Shopping Center at 9294 Kingston Pike.
