Workout Anytime opens in Aiken

WORKOUT ANYTIME

Workout Anytime, a 24/7-access gym, has opened on the west side of Aiken.

The gym opened May 3 at 1614 Richland Ave. W. in Kalmia Plaza and, so far, has enjoyed the community’s support, said business owner Lou Puleo.

“The community has really been supportive,” Puleo said. “People of Aiken are great, so we’ve really had a very good turnout.”

Puleo, who is a retired Marine, said he believes there was a need for Northside residents for what the gym offers.

“We’re close to town, close to the hospital, close to the school (USC Aiken),” he said. “I think, whereas, the Southside has its development, the Northside offers the opportunity for growth and to serve the community and that’s why we came here.”

Workout Anytime is a full-service gym and offers cardio, free weight and strength equipment along with tanning and hydro massaging. The gym also offers training and a fitness assessment comes with membership.

Puleo also said the gym uses Matrix equipment, which is a part of the gym’s mission that includes keeping a safe, convenient environment to help its members “achieve their workout goals.”

There are more than 100 Workout Anytime locations across the Southeast and around 20 in the Carolinas, said Randy Trotter, Workout Anytime vice president of development.

Trotter said the company likes the Aiken-size market, which he said is medium-sized. Workout Anytime also fits well as a value-priced model, he said. Once a member joins one of the gyms, they can work out at any of the other locations.

“The No. 1 thing people look for besides price and no contracts is convenience,” Trotter said. “In a nutshell, it’s the convenience factor, and that’s why we pick our locations the way we do.”

Jasmine Grizzell, assistant manager at the Aiken location, said the gym’s clientele ranges in age, with Manager Morgan Zakis adding there are a lot of people who come to the gym to better their health.

“That’s where our older clients come from,” Zakis said. “(They come) just to keep active and keep moving,”

Customer Megan Laflam said the gym’s hours work well with her job.

“The hours are excellent – it’s 24/7,” she said. “I work in a hospital, so I can come when I need to (and) all of the equipment is great. You’ve got your free weights and your machines, and the staff is great. I think that’s the best part.”
