Equinox Club: Trio Arrested After Allegedly Trafficking 50 Firearms

Equinox Club: Trio Arrested After Allegedly Trafficking 50 Firearms .As many as 50 firearms, including 9mm pistols, a .380 Kahr pistol and an AR-15 assault-style rifle, were stockpiled and partially sold out of an Equinox club in Manhattan’s Greenwich Village since October 2017. The three men involved in the gun ring, one of whom was an Equinox employee, have been arrested.

New York City law enforcement and agents from the Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms and Explosives (ATF) arrested three men for allegedly smuggling and selling firearms they had been stockpiling at a Manhattan Equinox club since October 2017, according to a media release from the Department of Justice.

The suspects were arrested Feb. 1 after completing a series of illegal firearm sales to undercover New York Police Department detectives and agents from the ATF.

Morris Wilson, 32, of Orlando, Florida, allegedly transported firearms by bus from Florida to New York, where he would deliver them to Maquan Moore, 29, a National September 11 Memorial & Museum security guard. Moore is accused of handing off the guns to an unidentified male employee of the Equinox Printing House club on Hudson Street in Manhattan’s Greenwich Village.

The unidentified man allegedly used storage lockers at the club to hide the guns until they were sold. The guns included 9mm pistols, a .380 Kahr pistol and an AR-15 assault-style rifle.

The club is one block away from the Hudson Park Library, James J. Walker Park, NYCDCC Labor Technical College and New York City District Council building.Equinox Club: Trio Arrested After Allegedly Trafficking 50 Firearms

Moore is accused of making illegal firearm sales directly outside the gym, where he also worked out, according to a report from NBC4.

“Maquan Moore and Morris Wilson are responsible for illegally introducing into Manhattan scores of illegal firearms–including assault-style weapons capable of inflicting mass casualties–and knowingly doing so in the neighborhood of a nearby school,” interim U.S. Attorney Geoffrey Berman said in the media release. “Their alleged disregard for public safety could have had catastrophic consequences.”

Moore and Wilson are both facing conspiracy and weapons charges.

Equinox said it is working with law enforcement on the case, but did not immediately respond to Club Industry’s request for comment.
