Planet Fitness near Stanton set for ‘Grand Opening’ with discounted membership fees

Planet Fitness near Stanton . A little late getting around to your New Year’s resolution? There’s a fix on the way.

The new Planet Fitness near Stanton is set to host a “Grand Opening” ceremony Monday and members have until the end of January to join for just $1 down and then $10 a month with no commitment.

The gym, one of the largest fitness club chains, is at the former site of the Best Buy at Old Capitol Trail and Farrand Drive on the border of Stanton and Milltown. The 48,000-square foot building was divided in two and the other half will soon be home to an Aldi grocery story.Planet Fitness is celebrating its opening with a ribbon cutting ceremony on Monday at 10 a.m. and will present an oversized check in the amount of $2,000 to the Boys & Girls Clubs of Delaware. From 4 to 6 p.m., YouDee, the University of Delaware Blue Hens mascot and A.I. du Pont High School marching band will be on-site and Planet Fitness will provide free pizza and offer giveaways for guests.The new Stanton facility takes up 22,374-square feet, according to Planet Fitness. The gym will offer cardio machines and strength equipment, a 30-Minute Express Circuit, a fully-equipped spa with massage beds, massage chairs, tanning beds and more. The facility will be open and staffed 24 hours a day, seven days a week.
