Muscling In…Dallas-based Gold’s Gym is muscling into Mount Pleasant,SC

Muscling in

A national fitness chain is muscling into Mount Pleasant and taking over the site of a failed specialty grocery emporium.

Dallas-based Gold’s Gym is moving into the former Southern Season space in Brookgreen Town Center off Coleman Boulevard, according to Charlie Way of The Beach Co., which owns the property.

The fitness center will occupy about 34,000 square feet of the former grocer, with pre-sales beginning this summer and a fall opening slated, according to Joyce Beach of commercial real estate firm CBRE Inc., who represented the tenant.

Minneapolis-based Butcher & The Boar restaurant announced last summer it will lease the former Southerly dining spot that was part of the former Southern Season store. The roughly 10,000-square-foot restaurant is slated to open in the fall.

The gym is beginning its retrofit of the property and will make a more formal announcement at a later date, Beach said.

The fitness chain offers two other locations in the Charleston area: on Folly Road on James Island and on Ashley Phosphate Road in North Charleston.

Beach said Gold’s would like to open at least two other locations in the Charleston area.
