Members say Mandarin gym closed its doors without warning

A local gym shut its doors on its members and Club Fitness members said they weren’t notified.

The day was spent clearing out fitness equipment and packing up trucks.

“So they’re just packing up and leaving and they aren’t telling anybody anything. No emails, no nothing,” member Ingrid Roberson said.

Action News Jax was at the gym as several disappointed people showed up to work out and found a sign on the door that reads in part: “Due to rising costs in operating overhead we have taken the appropriate steps to better serve you as paying members.”

The doors were locked.

“That’s crazy. I come here every week and then this is unbelievable. Nobody told us that,” member Willie Gan said.

Club Fitness has been at the location for six years and underwent a name change about two years ago.

Trisha Carroll said it’s one of the best locations in Mandarin.

“My only option is to lose my money now or to go to the other side of town, which isn’t convenient,” Carroll said.

The gym’s operations manager said people have the option to go to the other gym for the rest of their membership or lose their money.

“It’s unfortunate. I’m very saddened by the situation myself. I’m probably getting the worse end of it,” Chris Zuravnsky said.

Action News Jax called the owners, who are based out of Fayetteville, North Carolina, to find out why no one was notified, but was sent to voicemail.

There is also an active deal on Groupon right now for the gym.

Action News Jax emailed the company to see if they will take down the deal and refund people.

Zuravnsky said the only people who will get their money back are the personal training clients.
