A San Francisco-area personal trainer and fitness club owner who was arrested earlier this yearon sexual assault and child molestation charges has reportedly registered for a new personal training business.
David Wolfsmith had owned Wolfpak Training Center in Morgan Hill, Calif., that trained runners and triathletes from ages 12 to over 60. He was arrested in April on suspicion of annoying or molesting a child, sexual battery by fraud, and lewd and lascivious acts on a child. He was released from jail shortly after his arrest but was arrested again in May after he was served with two additional counts of sexual battery by fraud.

Wolfsmith is out on $325,000 bail, and his next hearing is scheduled for Oct. 27 at South County Courthouse in Morgan Hill, Santa Clara County Deputy District Attorney Tim McInerny told The Morgan Hill Times. Authorities shut down the Wolfpak gym in June, NBC Bay Area reported.
Now according to both media outlets, Wolfsmith and his wife, Julia, registered on Aug. 1 to gain a business tax certificate from the City of San Jose to open a business called Wolfsmith Training. The certificate lists “personal training” as the nature of the business, the newspaper reported. The document lists both David and Julia Wolfsmith as the business owners.
“We’re proud of our contributions to the Morgan Hill community and of our work with hundreds of clients,” Julia Wolfsmith wrote in a statement to NBC Bay Area. She said her husband “plans to vigorously defend himself and his work in court.”
The business tax certificate is similar to a business license in other cities, but it alone is not intended for regulation, the newspaper reported. McInerny is trying to stop the Wolfsmiths from operating their new business in San Jose.
“Our foremost concern is public safety,” McInerny told the TV station. “Logic and common sense demand that we would take action knowing that the defendant has opened a new training facility in San Jose.”
