Fitness Factory Health Club to open in new Yonkers residential tower

Fitness Factory Health Club YONKERS – Fitness Factory Health Club has signed a lease to open in RXR Realty’s Larkin Plaza complex downtown.

Steve Lorenzo, a principal with Lee & Associates, the real estate firm that closed the deal, called the New Jersey-based company a “high-end health club.” Lorenzo said he may announce other tenants soon.

“The interest is extremely high and the leasing activity is very good,” he said Tuesday.

When RXR’s residential tower opens, Fitness Factory would be the first upscale health club downtown. The health club is expected to open in early 2019.

Work continues at RXR’s two-tower complex, which consists of 25- and 17-story towers that face both Main Street and Larkin Plaza. When finished, the complex will have 442 apartments with a 539-space parking garage.

The ground floor of the complex is expected to include restaurants and retail along Main Street and Larkin Plaza. Many of the surrounding new residential buildings that are already occupied have upscale amenities, including fitness centers.

However, the residential fitness centers are small compared to the  approximately 17,000 square feet that Fitness Factory has leased.

Fitness Factory wouldn’t be the first health club to open in one of the new residential complexes downtown. Retro Fitness, a budget health club, opened at 66 Main St. but it suddenly closed in December when the company filed for Chapter 7 bankruptcy.

Currently the only other health club downtown is the YMCA’s gym.

The New Jersey-based Fitness Factory has four locations in the Garden State. A fifth location is expected to open in Somerset, according to Fitness Factory’s website.

Its location at 521 River Road in Edgewater includes strength and cardio machines, personal training, chiropractic services and children’s fitness.

Fitness Factory’s membership prices vary. The Edgewater location has plans ranging from $39.99 a month for a 24-month agreement to $49.99 a month for a yearlong agreement and a $99-a-month plan with no committed duration.
