Dearborn Racquet and Health Club recruiting new members

Spring has finally sprung, and the Dearborn Racquet and Health Club celebrated its arrival by hosting a spring fling open house Saturday for potential new members.

The open house served as a reminder to the community that there is a facility in its backyard for working out and having fun.

“We wanted to, hopefully, to drum up some interest,” club General Manager Rodney Birchmeier said. “We wanted to say: ‘Hey we are here.’”

Current members were encouraged to bring family and friends to the event to boost membership sales and see firsthand the perks of belonging to the club.

During the open house, guests enjoyed free refreshments, children’s activities, fitness/dance demonstrations, free pickleball, wallyball and racquetball.

There were giveaways every half-hour that included training packages, swim lessons by the British Swim School, haircuts from the onsite salon, and more.

“It’s always good to do something that will bring more traffic,” said Abe Maatouk of membership relations.

Founded in 1974, the club boasts several healthy options for staying fit, including four racquetball/wallyball courts, five tennis courts, an indoor swimming pool and spa, an indoor track, a 17,000-square-foot fitness center, fitness studios and more.

“There is something for everyone,” Birchmeier said. “And it’s all under one roof.”

Also available at the club are locker rooms with steam and dry saunas, a cycling studio for spin classes or single rides, an indoor golf training studio and a tanning salon. Birchmeier said that because the club is privately owned, it offers amenities that other public gyms do not, like a towel.

“It’s a family-type feeling, and a social atmosphere,” he said. “People come for that.”

The club also offers rentals for showers, birthday parties and more to members and non-members.

The club and party rentals are open to non-residents.

The Kid’s Club is the health club’s playroom, with staff that will baby-sit and help kids with homework while their parents or other family members get a workout in.

“We get to know the kids and the parents,” said Natalie Hoffmeister of the Kids Club.

Adriana Arnold is the club’s aesthetician, and offers a full menu of beauty services such as waxing, facials and makeup services.

“Everyone is nice and friendly,” she said. “I’ve been a member for 20 years.”

“I have been a member for about 10 years,” said Justin Hawrot. “The atmosphere is friendly, and I have never had an issue.” Continued…
