Baños Brothers of Gold’s Gym Get Three Bay Clubs

Gold’s Gym franchisees Angel and Willy Baños recently acquired three clubs in the Santa Barbara, Calif., area from The Bay Club Company.

The three clubs were formerly Spectrum Athletic Clubs before The Bay Club Company acquired them along with eight other Spectrum clubs in April 2015.

Willy Baños told Noozhawk.com, which covers the Santa Barbara area, that the three clubs did not fit The Bay Club Company’s hospitality and resort model.

“It wasn’t in their wheelhouse,” Baños told the website. “We took the opportunity to work with them and take over these three clubs.”

Baños added the deal to acquire the clubs was finalized on Oct. 1 after six months of negotiations.

The new Gold’s Gyms will have updated amenities and programs, including renovated locker rooms, new flooring, new group fitness programs, pro shops, bottle drinks and health bars. Membership rates will not increase, and reduced monthly rates are available with longer contract commitments, according to a press release.

“Santa Barbara is particularly special to us as it has been our home for the last four years, and we are looking forward to providing a positive influence within the community,” Angel Banos said in a statement.

Noozhawk.com reported that with the acquisition, The Bay Club Company no longer has clubs in the Santa Barbara area. The Bay Club Company declined to comment about the acquisition to iClubs.
